East Houston, because of its prime location near downtown Houston and its large areas of land for sale, is often chosen for the construction of warehouse and industrial properties, and there are a number of mixed-use developments in this area of Houston, as well.
East Houston is an area awaiting a rebirth, and more than a half billion dollars have been invested into this area for such improvement projects as street lights, trees, and bike trails. Other development being planned includes the Houston Maritime Museum, the Houston Railroad Museum, and a number of cafes, parks and street markets.
There are more than 234,000 residents within a five-mile radius of East Houston, along with more than 7,700 businesses and more than 100,000 employees. This prime Houston location is also near the dynamic Houston areas of the Texas Medical Center and the Museum District.
#e-h-sub#There are still stately Victorian homes standing in East Houston, which are slowly being renovated and restored to their original splendor, although much of this area consists of smaller, single-family ranch and bungalow homes. In addition to residential real estate, East Houston is attracting many developers and businesses that want to build or relocate to an affordable area that is just minutes from downtown Houston and the Port of Houston.
